Mena met Altorian at the Silver Dryad when she was 585 years old at which point he became her favoured lover. A free spirit, Mena wasn't one to be easily tied down, and Altorian wasn't trying to anyway. The arrangment seemed to work for both the Elf and the Black Dragon... so why mess with a good thing?

Five years later Altorian died during a quest to rid Aerdon of the Seed of Wrath. His death came as a shock to the vivacious strawberry-blonde and it was a long time before she pulled her head out of the Hell's Fire bottle. On some level, Mena believed she was twice cursed. Both of her parents had been unlucky in love for most of their lives. Galain has wound up alone, and An'Thaya has seen the death of far too many lovers. Only after Altorian's death did she realize that love had been in the equation... far too late. Mena tried to move on, but no one could live up to her Black Kin'Oth.
Years later, Arylsn was attacked, and the invader... Altorian himself, reforged by the Demon Queen of the Underworld. He looked different, his memories were gone... but Mena welcomed him back with all the dizzy Alcarin passion she was blessed with. Time will tell how much of his memories will be restored, but to be with him again is an unexpected gift, one that Mena doesn't intend to squander.

The Only Exception by Paramore

When I was younger
I saw my daddy cry
And curse at the wind
He broke his own heart
And I watched
As he tried to reassemble it

And my momma swore that
She would never let herself forget
And that was the day that I promised
I'd never sing of love
If it does not exist

But darling,
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception

Maybe I know, somewhere
Deep in my soul
That love never lasts
And we've got to find other ways
To make it alone
Keep a straight face

And I've always lived like this
Keeping a comfortable, distance
And up until now
I had sworn to myself that I'm
Content with loneliness

Because none of it was ever worth the risk

Well, You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception

I've got a tight grip on reality
But I can't
Let go of what's in front of me here
I know you're leaving
In the morning, when you wake up
Leave me with some kind of proof it's not a dream

Ohh---

You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception
You, are, the only exception

And I'm on my way to believing
Oh, And I'm on my way to believing
